Tizia con cappotto bianco
White fur-trimmed coat

Another quickly-drawn image to learn how to color with Copic markers. I won't concentrate on whether the lineart is good or bad, I'll say I'm starting to understand a bit of know-how now. Now I should find a better paper than photocopy paper to draw on, LOL. Even though I did many pretty drawings on photocopy paper.

Signorina liberty con il super scanner nuovo *_*
Donna liberty 02

Since lately I can't draw anything that suits my taste, I leave you with a picture from a while ago. And since I have a brand new Canon scanner that was delivered today, I couldn't but flaunt it. *_*
I forgot to erase the Fabriano logo (an Italian brand of drawing paper) but who cares.

I'm in love with vintage photographs.
Actually, this is the re-interpreted portrait of Lucienne Herval, an actress from the 30's - probably French - about whom I couldn't find much information. On Lorivintage55stock on deviantART you will find tens and tens of photos like the one I used, from the last years of the 1800's to the 1950's. Catch a glimpse of it if you like them, it's really worth it. Just, if you use any of those for your works, let her know, she'll be pleased. She makes them available at certain conditions so make sure to read them, understand them and respect them.
Most of those beautiful actresses are totally unknown to us today. It's fascinating to think about the lives behind those portraits and unsettling to think how time swallowed all that they and their lives were, leaving us with only a few images to try to recall. Where have gone their lives, their experiences, their very souls mad with all that they were, did and knew? I often wonder...

An afternoon in a sour mood and a handful of Copics, which I'm still learning to use well. The girl on the right swears because she's really badly drawn.

Io: "Quale?"
Fidanzato: "Fai le tette più grosse!"

Decisamente ha capito tutto.

Me: "I like this drawing... except the face. It should be the most important part of all, and I don't like it!"
Boyfriend: "If you were not sure that the face was going to be right, there's only one solution."
Me: "That would be?"
Boyfriend: "Make her tits bigger!"

He's got the knack of it all.

Alessando Barbucci blog new header© Alessandro Barbucci

I suppose I owe an explanation to non-Italian speakers, so here we go. A guy calling himself Mangasprai has proclaimed himself a sort of so-called "pure manga style" paladin, claiming that "hybrid style sucks". What he intends for hybrid style is, he says, "manga-French mixed style", quoting as main example Alessandro Barbucci of Skydoll fame, with total disregard for the obvious Disney ancestry that Skydoll very much shows.
He even started hate campaigns here, here, here and most notably here, and who knows where else. Not happy with that, he has taken to commenting to other people's drawings saying things like "This drawing's very nice, too bad that it's a bit too hybrid..."
And now Barbucci himself has heard about it and has replied in his own personal way... XD (the balloon on the far left reads "Hybrid sucks!")

Congratulations! Not everyone gets to be made fun of by Alessandro Barbucci in person. :D

(Needless to say that I hold Barbucci in high esteem, he's one of my reference authors - and now even more.)

*Update: They told me that "capullo" means "idiot" or "bollock".

Animale raro

...

Signori, vi presento la PUCCIOSITÀ!!!!

I finally was able to capture one most rare creature.
One that has eluded me for almost fifteen years now.
I kept on going after her, and not only she always escaped, she also stuck out her tongue at me.
Ah, but now I have her.
Let me introduce to you,

CUTENESS!!!!

Emozioni veneziane: anteprima
Emozioni veneziane

Here you have a small preview from the cover of Emozioni veneziane, the book
by Anna Castelli that I proudly illustrated. Sorry for the low quality, but thos who want to see the illustration in its full glory just need to wait and purchase the book - and my scanner pretty much sucks, too, being a multi-purpose combo, which means it will do everything while excelling at nothing.
Watercolor pencils and watercolor on thick paper.
(Enry: "As a kid I used to have a carnival costume just like that, colors and all!" XD)
Oh, and I decided to invent a new artist's disease: the Mirka syndrome. Which is, when an artist can't appreciate his/her own work, even when everybody around them tells them it's pretty. Because this illustration made me desperate. I think it looks totally flat, and she's got a giant head.
The difference with me is, Mirka draws REALLY well.

I think I'll never stop being amazed.
(I didn't post drawings later because I was kept busy by an illustration that never wanted to end. After weeks of Venetian balconies, I think I want to do a Creamy Mami fanart now.)
